Best windows archiver program
Also, while we love its minimal UI, it isn't exactly the prettiest, and some people may prefer a more filled-out interface. Again, it's all in how you use it—most users will be more than content with it, and users that want more can move on to one of the other programs below. Windows has quite a few good file compression programs, so if you don't like 7-Zip, you have quite a few choices. PeaZip is a very popular option, mostly for its good-looking interface and its numerous security options, like two-factor authentication, secure file deletion, and comparison of files using hashes.
It can pack into a few more file formats too. PeaZip's biggest downside is that it often seems a bit overwhelming for those that just want a simple file compression utility, and the UI can be a bit quirky at times.
B1 is a tool that was a big disappointment in the tests, it is easy to use but also terribly slow. Great list thanks. I was a huge fan of 7-Zip for years but it is not good for large directories with small files; it takes ages to compress these kinda folders with 7-Zip.
Thanks again. Nice comparison. Thank you!. After trying most of the freeware you tested, I settled on FreeArc for a couple reasons: its speed beats, and compression equals, 7-Zip my previous favorite , and its encryption capabilities include both a number of algorithm choices and the ability to use a key file simultaneously or sequentially.
Quite a bit of what I do is extremely confidential, and I need to store a backup in the cloud, so encryption is critical for me. You might want to consider that among the factors you use to compare file archivers.
I have used and then bought winrar years ago and never regret making the purchase. Have high hopes for 7z, also to look out for is Freearc which seems to be making waves recently.
I use PowerArhiver and I am very pleased with it , I can say that the consumption of resources uses much less as Winrar.. Very useful and good article thanks. Nope 1 year ago. HAL Author 1 year ago. Save Disk Space — The original purpose was compressing was saving some disc space.
Extracting Specific Content — Sometimes you may need only a few files from a big archive. Then you can just use your archive manager to open that archive, and then extract those specific files or folders. For example, you can extract a directory used to store wallpapers in a Linux distro ISO.
Or, check the installer version of an ISO by extracting only the setup executable file, etc. Easy and Secure Data Sharing — Along with Compress and Extract, there is one more option that is commonly found in the context menu of most of these archiving software, and that Compress and Email. This feature helps in sharing multiple or individual files through email. Using a compressed package for sending and receiving important files is beneficial in two ways — One, it decreases the file size to be transferred, and two, it lets you add a layer of security with the help of password-protection.
Faster Data Transfer — Moving many small sized files can take a lot of time. For example, transferring images or files take much more time than transferring one archive of those images or files.
Archives mean faster and easier data transfer. Test and Repair Existing Archives — Sometimes, the archives may become unreadable and corrupt due to some odd reasons. The archiving software try to test and repair the errors found in the package to be able to extract the contents of that package. These eliminate the need for installing or keeping additional dedicated software for these specific jobs.
